Fluttershy Slumber Party Set - My Little Pony Equestria Girls Minis

Today we are unboxing and reviewing the brand new MLP Equestria Girls Minis dolls. Yes, Equestria girls are now in mini sizes. They are about half the size of a regular Equestria Girl doll. If you like the Shopkins Shoppies dolls, these new MLP EG mini dolls are around the same size.

The Equestria Girls minis are a new line of MLP toys and I was able to find them only on Amazon so far. I think they should be sold at Target, Walmart, and Babies R Us in the very near future.

The set we are reviewing is the Fluttershy Slumber Party set, it comes with one super cute equestria girl  Fluttershy and a ton of accessories including cookies, strawberry, a raccoon teddy, presents, eyepatch, purse and a rabbit.

Fluttershy Equestria Girl Mini
Fluttershy Equestria Girl Mini is about 4.5 inches or 12 cm tall.  Her hair is solid and her elbow, hips, knees, and even her hair are articulated. Because of her solid hair, she is very top heavy which makes her really hard to pose. I think she would need a doll stand in order to be posed.

Below are the dolls release do far. You can find them at Target, ToysRUs and Amazon.

Disney Tsum Tsum Vinyl Minifigures with Mystery Surprise Blind Bag

Following the success of the Disney Tsum Tsum App game and plush toys, Disney now has Tsum Tsum collectible vinyls!! There are Tsum Tsum vinyls that you can get from Japan but these have just been release in the US. These stackable vinyls come in three different sizes. The largest is under 2 inches long, medium is a bit over an inch, and small is three quarter inch.

Currently it seems like they're Target Exclusives. Target sells these Tsum Tsums in two styles. A 9 pack that contains 3 large, 3 medium and 3 small. One of the medium sizes is a mystery figure. There currently are 2 styles of these 9 packs.

The second style is a 3 pack with one of each size. I'm not sure how many styles there are but they mix it up pretty good so it's hard not to get duplicates if you buy the 9 packs.

Since they're new, they're probably not in stock at many Targets so make sure to call first and as them to look up the DPCI number to check to see if they have it in stock.

40 Mystery Edition Shopkins Unboxing and Review

Moose toys has been teasing the Shopkins fans for weeks now with a special Mystery Edition Shopkins set to release at Target stores only on November 1st. Finally the day is here and I went early to my local Target to see what all the fuss is around.

There were about 15 of us waiting for the store to open. Fortunately, the Target had at least 25 boxes of the Shopkins so that everyone was able to purchase a box. The box retails for $34 and contains 40 Shopkins, 2 baskets and 4 shopping bags. Not too bad considering they contain rare and special editions too.

So the big mystery is that the Mystery Edition contains 40 season 3 shopkins in super bright Neon colors. They are laid out very attractively in a large black box with a velvety interior, like a fancy box of chocolates. The Shopkins are very bright and look really awesome and is a great addition for any collector.  I've listed the full list below.

The Peanuts Movie McDonalds Happy Meal Full Set

The Peanuts Movie is coming out on November 6. This is the first full feature movie for the Peanuts gang. This movie will feature Charlie Brown and the Little Red-Haired Girl. Charlie Brown will of course fall for her. But will she like him back or does Charlie Brown just have to wait for the day for her to notice him.

A new set of McDonalds Happy meal toys has been released to promote The Peanuts Movie. The set includes Charlie Brown, Sally Brown, Lucy, Linus, Snoopy, Woodstock and Peppermint Patty. These toys are large, about 3" tall and the perfect size for displaying. They are perfect for adult and kid collectors alike! Take a look at the video to see which one is your favorite. My favorite is the spinning Snoopy.

Cursing Minions McDonalds Happy Meal Toy?

With the new Minions movie coming out, McDonalds is promoting it with a set of 12 Minion toys. These toys make minion sounds when they are tapped or knocked over. Each of the Minions has it's own set of sounds.

However, with one Minion in particular, the Caveman Minion, there has been some controversy regarding what he is actually saying. Many parents did a second take when they heard the toy, they thought they hear him swearing.

Personally, I did not notice it until this came up on the news. I've had it for quite a few days now and never thought he was cursing. Funny Minion noises, yes. Swearing, no... But now that I'm listening for it, I can hear it. Officially, the Minion Caveman toy makes three sounds — “para la bukay,” ”hahaha” and “eh eh.”

I don't think it's a huge deal. Kids who don't know the words would not pick it up from this toy. Kids who already know the words will probably get a kick out of owning a toy that may sound like it's swearing. Naughty Minion!

Maybe someone in the Minion recording room had a little too much fun or maybe it's just all in our heads. If you want to hear it for yourself, check out my unboxing video. The minion in question is Minion #5 at time stamp 2:44

Shopkins Craze - Where to buy Shopkins Season 3

Shopkins Season 3 is finally out in the United States. It first rolled out on June 1st but two weeks later it is still super hard to find. Since I know for sure that Toys R Us, Target and Walmart carry Shopkins, I made my rounds to all the stores around me on the first week and was not able to find a single Shopkin, season 2 or 3.

I went to Toys R Us right went it opened on one of their truck days. The first time, nothing. The store associate told us at the door that they only had a delivery of the Season 2 playsets. Regardless, the handful of us still went in to see for ourselves. We then stood in the aisle, scanning the shelves in case we were somehow misled and a huge case of Shopkins Season 3 would magically appear.

Then I went on a Toys R Us truck day in the middle of the week, Wednesday. I got there about 10 minutes early and waited for the doors to open. There were a few moms in line too. They had gotten to known each other over the past week while waiting for the store to open on truck days. One of the moms showed me a picture of their collection, it was huge, there must be hundreds of season 1 and season 2 Shopkins. She had been looking daily for Season 3 too but haven't had any luck. The doors soon opened and we made a beeline for the Shopkins aisle.

And we saw Shopkins, 2 shelves full of season 3 and 2 more shelves full of season 2. It was an amazing sight. Blind baskets, 12 pack, 6 pack, play sets, shopping carts, they had it all.

The half dozen of us early-birds started looking for the ones we wanted. I felt a little greedy when I grabbed an entire case of the blind baskets, but then I noticed that there were a few more cases of Season 3 and at least 20 cases of Season 2, and still a whole row of 12 and 6 packs so at least there are still plenty left. I figured it would be a waste of time to come every three days to stand in line for the door to open just to grab 5 blind baskets at a time.

15 minutes later, half of the season 3 were gone. Season 2 was mostly untouched since most of the early shoppers were there for season 3. But at this rate I'd imagine that all of season 3 would be gone in the next few hours and season 2 would most likely follow within the next day or two.

Hopefully they will continue to get large shipments of Shopkins for the next few months, because with the way they were flying off the shelves, I think there is still a shortage :)

So here are my lessons learned from the past 2 weeks:

Toys R US

  • Ask an associate about their truck day schedule.
  • Inquire about the number of people that typically wait for the store to open.
  • Ask to see if there is a limit on how many you can buy.
  • Arrive when the store opens on a truck day. You might have to go earlier to wait in line if your store gets small deliveries and there are high demand.
  • I wouldn't recommend calling first to see if they have it, most likely they would be gone by the time you arrive.
  • Online - Sometimes they have Season 3 on sale, usually they are sold out within a day.

Target

  • I have not seen any Shopkins Season 3 at Target.
  • I find that Target is generally unreliable in terms of predicting when they'd get a shipment.
  • An associate might offer to scan the SKU on their handhelds and see if nearby Targets have them in stock but usually that number is inaccurate. One Target told me a nearby target had 120 units in stock, when I went there 10 mins there, they didn't have any.
  • Online - I have not seen Season 3 sold online.

Walmart

  • I have not seen any Shopkins Season 3 at Walmart.
  • I hear that some stores only limit you to 2 items.
Amazon
  • Unfortunately, the prices on Amazon are really high, I wouldn't buy them online if you have the other stores nearby.
Ebay
  • Also priced pretty high.

Needless to say, I'm loving these little guys, check out the unboxing video of my first Shopkins ever!

Thinkfun STEM Robot Turtles Board Game for Little Programmers

Robot Turtles is a clever and fun board game where kids have fun playing and yet at the same time they are learning programming concepts that they could potentially use as future software engineers.

The game is colorful and well made with beautifully made cards. The cards provide simple actions such as move forward, turn left, turn right, shoot laser. To play, the player uses the card to write code that essentially provides directions to the computer (aka parents) to move their turtle pieces to the gem.

For young players you simply just see who can move their turtle to their gem first. For more advanced play you can set up the board with ice and wood obstacles. The programmer will then have to write code to instruct the computer to navigate the turtle around or shoot through the obstacles to get to the gem.

There is also a bug card where you can 'undo' your last move by hitting the bug. This is a good way to show that bugs are errors that needs to be corrected in order for the program to complete it's mission.

This game teaches kids to think logically in order to provide the code/instructions to their turtle's computer.

We play the simple basic version with my daughter and she loves the noises we make whenever the turtle gets stuck. She even takes turns being the computer and moves the turtles according to our code.

I like how the board game allows the family to play together without the use of any electronics or fancy gadgets. It allows for a lot of back and forth conversation as the players plots out the moves and the computer responds to it.

I think it's a great game for kids 4 to 12. After playing it I can see how it is the most backed board game in KickStarter history. I got my copy at Amazon. Check out the video below to see it in action!

2015 McDonalds My Little Pony and MLP Equestria Girls & Transformers

Once again McDonalds has a great set of toys out, the My Little Pony and MLP Equestria Girls (girls toys) and  Transformers (boys toys). I'm not sure why they continue to call them girls or boys since most parents of young kids know that boys and girls like all toys. My girls are still too young to watch Transformers yet but they love their dinosaur and car toys as much as their doll toys.

Anyhow, the My Little Pony (MLP) set is super cute. The set includes both the pony and the doll version of Fluttershy, Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, and Pinky Pie. Super fun to have both sets to play with. I'm also glad they had Applejack even if it means leaving out Rainbow Dash and Rarity.

The Transformer toys are super cool too. There are 4 of each from the Autobots and the Decepticons. The set includes Optius Prime, Bumblebee, Fixit, Fracture, Sideswipe, Clampdown, Underbite, and Grimlock.

One toy comes with each Happy Meal, but you can ask to purchase the other ones separately. Check out the videos to see them!

Interacting with YouTube videos - A Do or Don't?

I love YouTube, it has everything. Type in any subject and you're bound to get hundreds of videos on that subject.

As an example, I recently picked up playing the violin with my daughter. She's 4 and is working hard through Twinkle Twinkle and Lightly Row. I've never played a string instrument before but played wind instruments for many years so I've moved a few paces ahead of her. I've gotten to a point where my teacher thought I should learn the vibrato. Essentially moving the hand in a rhythm so that you hear that rich, expressive sound that string instruments are known for. I typed in violin vibrato in YouTube and instantly I had hundreds of new teachers to show me the best tips and tricks to do it. So, long-winded way to say, YouTube rocks!

YouTube also has a rich community of friendly folks who love to make an post videos. That's something the cable networks don't have; real people that you can actually communicate with. But this is done mostly in the comments section. What's missing is a way to communicate or interact on the video.

I created a few videos in an attempt to introduce some interactions with the viewer. A way for the viewer to select what direction they want the video to go next. So in my first video, I did a Choose-your-adventure type where you can choose the direction of the character. My second video is an educational video where you can select an answer and it'll take you down the correct or incorrect path.

Check them out and let me know if this is something that you as a viewer like and want to see more of or it's not that interesting.

てづくりラムネ Tedukuri Ramune (Sweet Tart like candy)

This is another fun DIY Japanese Candy set. The taste is very similar to SweetTarts but not as hard.

But a word of warning first, this kit can get very messy. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone under 7.

The kit comes with three powder packets that essentially form your primary colors palette.

  1. You put one tiny drop of water with the provide spoon and you mix the powder very well with your fingers until it gets clumpy. This can take a bit of time.
  2. Once you have all three colors mixed, you can start to make new colors by combining the primary colors.
  3. Afterwards, fill the molds, place the lid of the mold on and press firmly on each mold so that the candy is packed down.
  4. Remove the lid, turn the mold up-side-down and pop the candies out. Done!

Watch the video below for more details!

My Little Pony Play-Doh Rainbow Dash Style Salon

The My Little Pony Play-Doh Rainbow Dash Style Salon is one of my favorite Play-doh sets. I don't know what it is with MLP and Play-doh, but they just go so well together.

This set is especially nice because there are no extra parts. Everything, all the molds, extruder, and fillers are built right into Rainbow Dash.

You can color Rainbow Dash's mane and tail with pieces of colorful playdoh. Make cute decorations from the molds on her body and legs.

Then with the extruder built right into her head, you can give her a long gorgeous mane.

Rainbow Dash is pretty big, so very easy for little hands to handle. And the set comes with 6 tubs of Playdoh! One for each color in Rainbow Dash's hair!

I can't recommend this set enough for kids who love ponies and playdoh :)

You can find it in most major retailers or online at Amazon.

Doc McStuffins - Bright Eyes Doc & Lambie and Happy Smiles Dentist

If your kids are like my kids, they're probably both a bit fascinated and scared of doctors. Fascinated because doctors have all sorts of cool tools and gadgets. Scared because doctors also give shots.

The Bright Eyes Doc & Lambie and Happy Smiles Dentist Doc McStuffins sets are wonderful for preschoolers to demonstrate to them what will happen at their first dentist or optometrist visit. Each set comes with an exam table and chair that is similar to the real thing. As a bonus, the sets come with additional tools.

The optometrist set comes with an eye chart, eye drops, eye cover tool, glasses and even a super adorable box of tissues.

The dentist set comes with a cup, toothpaste, and toothbrush.

Role play with the characters that come with the set to demonstrate what goes on. Or maybe your little one would be so excited about the visit afterwards that they want to play doctor and treat their toys to an exam.

What's even better is that the set is about the same size as the Disney Princess Magiclip dolls. So if you have those dolls, they can join in the fun!

Here is a link to the Bright Eyes Doc & Lambie and the Happy Smiles Dentist.

Dolch word list - Primer Sight Words

The Dolch word list is commonly used when teaching children sight words. Sight words are high-frequency words that should be memorized and easily recognized without having to sound-out.

Below are the Primer words.

Primer
all, am, are, at, ate, be, black, brown, but, came, did, do, eat, four, get, good, have, he, into, like, must, new, no, now, on, our, out, please, pretty, ran, ride, saw, say, she, so, soon, that, there, they, this, too, under, want, was, well, went, what, white, who, will, with, yes

The video below teach primer sight words.

Olaf's Classroom - Dolch Primer Sightwords and Snowgie Surprises

Learn 5 primary sight words in Olaf's classroom. See the words, hear the words, say the words, then find out what is inside each of the Snowgies!!

I didn't know what the Snowgies were called and had to look it up. It's a fun word, I think a mixture of Snow and babies??

Ever After High - Raven Queen Doll

Oh, if only I could be a kid again. Every time I go to the toy section of a story I'm amazed at the doll selection. Growing up, there was just Barbie. If you want a 11" doll, you get Barbie.

But then I could be wrong. As a kid, I had exactly one Barbie and one My Little Pony. Both were birthday gifts as my family didn't have the financial means to spend much on toys in those days.  So I didn't spend much time in the toy store. Instead I went to my neighbor's house where they had a three story Barbie house, at least a dozen Barbies, Ken dolls and a car. We had hours upon hours of fun with those dolls. Dressing, undressing, role playing... Good times.

Today, with all the selection, a kid can have a dozen dolls from each series alone! Disney Princesses, Monster High, Equestria Girls, Lalaloopsy, Bratz, Ever After High... How do you choose?

All the dolls are beautiful, but the Ever After High girls especially caught my eye. They are absolutely the most gorgeous dolls I've ever seen. They don't have the traditional small face but instead have softer, rounder faces that is just so pleasing to look at. The hair is beautiful and the outfits are just out of the world. So much detail is put into it.

To me, this isn't a doll to be played with by 4 yr olds, but rather something to be collected and displayed. In fact, I'm not sure if you can actually remove her outfit... The doll come with her own stand so maybe these dolls are for grown up kids like me who can now finally afford to get all the dolls I want :)

I got to watching the Ever After High show after my daughter found it on Netflix. I usually try to watch shows with her so that I know what's going on and the show is super cute. Beautiful drawing and the dialog isn't too annoying. The context of the story is pretty good and age appropriate too.

Raven Queen is my first doll from this series. I really like her character, she seems to be growing to become a strong, independent girl who care about her family and loved ones yet at the same time wanting to pave her own road in life. Or as the story puts it, create her own destiny.

Check out the unboxing of Raven Queen below.

Goliath Jumping Jack Game Review

The Jumping Jack game by Goliath is a great fun for all ages. Pretty much anyone who can pull out a carrot can play!

To set-up the game, you simply stick the carrots into the 'ground' then set the bunny in the middle. Then everyone takes turns spinning the spinner to see how many carrots to pull out. It can be none, one, or two. You then select the carrot to pull. But be careful! If you pull the right one, the bunny will pop into the air, and whoever catches it wins!

Lots of fun with family and friends!

3 Disney Magiclip Princesses - Rupunzel, Snow White, Anna

Rapunzel, Snow White, Anna Magiclip Dolls
If you haven't heard, for mommies with kids under 5, the Disney Magiclip Princesses are the best toy ever invented. It's probably as important as the invention of the sippy cup :)

What are the Disney Magiclip Princess Dolls? The Disney Magiclip dolls are about 4 inches tall and wears dresses that are EASY to REMOVE and PUT ON... I've you've ever seen a preschooler struggle to put on a dress on a Barbie doll or regular Disney doll you know that many times it ends in a meltdown.

With the magiclip doll, you simply squeeze the bottom of the dress like a clothespin, the top of the dress opens up and you pull out the doll. To put on another dress, open the dress and slide in the doll. Release the dress and the doll is fully dressed!!

The biggest problem you may have is getting nagged to purchase all the different princesses and sets out there. It seems like every few months there are new dolls and dresses to collect.

The following Disney Princesses are available in the Magiclip style: Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Merida, Tiana, Rapunzel, Elsa, Anna.

You can get them in singles, singles with an second dress,  sets with multiple princesses, and sets with multiple princesses and multiple dresses! Some dresses are sold in a set but they usually come with a doll.

You can also find princess and prince pairs, but the prince's outfit can't change...

Kracie Popin' Cookin' DIY Candy Kit - Gummy Zoo Animals

This is another fun kit from Kracie Popin' Cookin'. In this set, you simply pour the powders into the candy mold provide then add drops of water mixture to make colorful and tasty gummies. It takes minutes to make and my kids keep asking for more.

There is enough powder to make 2 sets of gummies using the mold.

I got mine at a local Japanese store, but it can be found on Amazon for a bit under $4.

Mickey Mouse Shorts Messenger Bag

Subway kids has a number of Mickey Mouse Shorts inspired messenger bags! Each one is about the size of an ipad and has a super cute Mickey and Minnie image printed on the front. On the inside, along with your Subway meal, you'll also find a fun puzzle.

The bag is not super sturdy but will hold enough snacks and toys for a day trip or a day camp.

I believe the images come from scenes from these episodes:

  • Croissant de Triomphe
  • Tokyo Go
  • O Sole Minnie
  • Third Wheel
  • The Adorable Couple

Painting and Decorating Easter Eggs

Easter means time for lots of egg decorating and coloring!  This year I picked up a few kits to try.

The first kit is from the dollar store. The egg clamp and spinner caught my eye and I was instantly intrigued. I've always found it hard to color all the way around the egg without getting paint all over the hands.

With this kit, you simply snap in a egg into the clamp and then paint away. It even comes with a paintbrush and paint! What a deal!

I found that the clamp works best with medium or small eggs. My jumbo egg barely made it. In fact, my second egg cracked while trying to squeeze it in.

The paint wasn't the greatest. I had to mix it up a bit to get deeper colors. And the brush was pretty bad too. It was thin an stiff and I believe I splattered more paint outside of the egg than on the egg...I would use a different paint and brush next with this kit to make painting less frustrating.

The second kit is Dudley's Roll It kit. It is about $5, which is a good deal for all the pieces it came in. The kit came with a paint tray, 6 colors, 6 rollers, and a bunch of egg discs to elevate the egg from the table.

This kit was a lot of fun. The rollers were easy to use and really allowed you to spread the colors around. I was able to wash the rollers and the tray after using it so that they can be used for another paint project.

What's really nice about this kit is that you just start painting. Most other kits need you to dunk the egg in a cup of coloring first then wait for it to dry before you can decorate it. With small kids, who has the patience to do that! Give them a white egg and they can start rolling! My girls had half a dozen eggs finished in no time.

I'd advise that you also get the egg scissors, really good for picking up wet eggs :)

Watch the videos below for a demo of each kit!

My Little Pony Series 2 Fashems

Fashems, fash'ems, mashems, mash'ems are cute and squishy rubber/plastic toys. They are made as collectable figures for a number of popular characters including My Little Pony, Disney Frozen, Disney Princess, Doc McStuffin, Hello Kitty, Littlest Pet Shop, Sofia the First, Ninja Turtles, Marvel, Disney Pixar, Disney Planes Fire & Rescue, Disney Planes, Angry Birds, Flappy Bird, Marvel Avengers, Transformers, Furby and WWE.

You can get them in sets or individual surprise capsules. I've found that they're super hard to find in regular stores and much easier on Amazon or on eBay. In the stores, either they get snatched up the moment they hit the stores or I'm just not looking at the right places.

I got some My Little Pony Fash'ems and after opening two of them I was hooked. I wanted to collect the other 4 ponies in the set. So I got 7 more Fashems, thinking those were good odds to get the 4 to complete my set. Unfortunately I was only able to get all the ponies but one! Darn, now I'm on the hunt for the last one!

Watch the video to find out which one I'm missing!

Play-Doh My Little Pony Cutie Mark Creators

The Play-Doh My Little Pony Cutie Mark Creators set by Hasbro is a fun set to take along on trips. The set comes with 2 ponies, Pinkie Pie and Princess Twilight Sparkle, 2 stamping options, and 4 small tubs of Play-Doh.

For younger kids, I recommend that they just fill in the areas on the pony to give them colorful manes and tails. Simply take the playdoh and fill in the space.

For older kids, they can use the pony as molds to create then swap the play-doh on opposite sides of the ponies to show the designs. Take the playdoh and fill in the space on both sides. Then using a larger piece of play-doh, remove the play-doh in the spaces. Flip the play-doh and put it back into the space on the opposite side of the pony. Now you can see the design!

Either way is fun and you get to customize the colors of the ponies!

I got mine at Amazon, but you can find it at almost any large toy or department store.

Watch the video below to see how it works!

Calling all Hello Kitty Fans!

xoxo Hello Kitty Best Friends - all included items
I found this adorable set while browsing the toy section at Target. What caught my eye was that this Hello Kitty had much longer arms and legs than what you usually see on a Hello Kitty doll.

The doll is about three inches tall and comes with a number of accessories. A lunchbox that opens and closes with a snap. An apple that fits in the lunch box. A small blue mouse. A 'toy' Hello Kitty. A backpack clip that attach the doll to the zipper of your backpack. Finally, a surprise item in a blind bag.

The quality of each item is very good. All items are hard, but the doll's head is firm rubber with a soft texture. The arms and legs of the Hello Kitty doll are movable, but the figure doesn't sit very well as the dress gets in the way of the legs fully moving to a sitting position.

I picked up mine at Target, but it can also be purchased at Amazon along with a few other styles.
