2015 McDonalds My Little Pony and MLP Equestria Girls & Transformers

Once again McDonalds has a great set of toys out, the My Little Pony and MLP Equestria Girls (girls toys) and  Transformers (boys toys). I'm not sure why they continue to call them girls or boys since most parents of young kids know that boys and girls like all toys. My girls are still too young to watch Transformers yet but they love their dinosaur and car toys as much as their doll toys.

Anyhow, the My Little Pony (MLP) set is super cute. The set includes both the pony and the doll version of Fluttershy, Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, and Pinky Pie. Super fun to have both sets to play with. I'm also glad they had Applejack even if it means leaving out Rainbow Dash and Rarity.

The Transformer toys are super cool too. There are 4 of each from the Autobots and the Decepticons. The set includes Optius Prime, Bumblebee, Fixit, Fracture, Sideswipe, Clampdown, Underbite, and Grimlock.

One toy comes with each Happy Meal, but you can ask to purchase the other ones separately. Check out the videos to see them!

Interacting with YouTube videos - A Do or Don't?

I love YouTube, it has everything. Type in any subject and you're bound to get hundreds of videos on that subject.

As an example, I recently picked up playing the violin with my daughter. She's 4 and is working hard through Twinkle Twinkle and Lightly Row. I've never played a string instrument before but played wind instruments for many years so I've moved a few paces ahead of her. I've gotten to a point where my teacher thought I should learn the vibrato. Essentially moving the hand in a rhythm so that you hear that rich, expressive sound that string instruments are known for. I typed in violin vibrato in YouTube and instantly I had hundreds of new teachers to show me the best tips and tricks to do it. So, long-winded way to say, YouTube rocks!

YouTube also has a rich community of friendly folks who love to make an post videos. That's something the cable networks don't have; real people that you can actually communicate with. But this is done mostly in the comments section. What's missing is a way to communicate or interact on the video.

I created a few videos in an attempt to introduce some interactions with the viewer. A way for the viewer to select what direction they want the video to go next. So in my first video, I did a Choose-your-adventure type where you can choose the direction of the character. My second video is an educational video where you can select an answer and it'll take you down the correct or incorrect path.

Check them out and let me know if this is something that you as a viewer like and want to see more of or it's not that interesting.

てづくりラムネ Tedukuri Ramune (Sweet Tart like candy)

This is another fun DIY Japanese Candy set. The taste is very similar to SweetTarts but not as hard.

But a word of warning first, this kit can get very messy. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone under 7.

The kit comes with three powder packets that essentially form your primary colors palette.

  1. You put one tiny drop of water with the provide spoon and you mix the powder very well with your fingers until it gets clumpy. This can take a bit of time.
  2. Once you have all three colors mixed, you can start to make new colors by combining the primary colors.
  3. Afterwards, fill the molds, place the lid of the mold on and press firmly on each mold so that the candy is packed down.
  4. Remove the lid, turn the mold up-side-down and pop the candies out. Done!

Watch the video below for more details!

My Little Pony Play-Doh Rainbow Dash Style Salon

The My Little Pony Play-Doh Rainbow Dash Style Salon is one of my favorite Play-doh sets. I don't know what it is with MLP and Play-doh, but they just go so well together.

This set is especially nice because there are no extra parts. Everything, all the molds, extruder, and fillers are built right into Rainbow Dash.

You can color Rainbow Dash's mane and tail with pieces of colorful playdoh. Make cute decorations from the molds on her body and legs.

Then with the extruder built right into her head, you can give her a long gorgeous mane.

Rainbow Dash is pretty big, so very easy for little hands to handle. And the set comes with 6 tubs of Playdoh! One for each color in Rainbow Dash's hair!

I can't recommend this set enough for kids who love ponies and playdoh :)

You can find it in most major retailers or online at Amazon.

Doc McStuffins - Bright Eyes Doc & Lambie and Happy Smiles Dentist

If your kids are like my kids, they're probably both a bit fascinated and scared of doctors. Fascinated because doctors have all sorts of cool tools and gadgets. Scared because doctors also give shots.

The Bright Eyes Doc & Lambie and Happy Smiles Dentist Doc McStuffins sets are wonderful for preschoolers to demonstrate to them what will happen at their first dentist or optometrist visit. Each set comes with an exam table and chair that is similar to the real thing. As a bonus, the sets come with additional tools.

The optometrist set comes with an eye chart, eye drops, eye cover tool, glasses and even a super adorable box of tissues.

The dentist set comes with a cup, toothpaste, and toothbrush.

Role play with the characters that come with the set to demonstrate what goes on. Or maybe your little one would be so excited about the visit afterwards that they want to play doctor and treat their toys to an exam.

What's even better is that the set is about the same size as the Disney Princess Magiclip dolls. So if you have those dolls, they can join in the fun!

Here is a link to the Bright Eyes Doc & Lambie and the Happy Smiles Dentist.

Dolch word list - Primer Sight Words

The Dolch word list is commonly used when teaching children sight words. Sight words are high-frequency words that should be memorized and easily recognized without having to sound-out.

Below are the Primer words.

Primer
all, am, are, at, ate, be, black, brown, but, came, did, do, eat, four, get, good, have, he, into, like, must, new, no, now, on, our, out, please, pretty, ran, ride, saw, say, she, so, soon, that, there, they, this, too, under, want, was, well, went, what, white, who, will, with, yes

The video below teach primer sight words.

Olaf's Classroom - Dolch Primer Sightwords and Snowgie Surprises

Learn 5 primary sight words in Olaf's classroom. See the words, hear the words, say the words, then find out what is inside each of the Snowgies!!

I didn't know what the Snowgies were called and had to look it up. It's a fun word, I think a mixture of Snow and babies??

Ever After High - Raven Queen Doll

Oh, if only I could be a kid again. Every time I go to the toy section of a story I'm amazed at the doll selection. Growing up, there was just Barbie. If you want a 11" doll, you get Barbie.

But then I could be wrong. As a kid, I had exactly one Barbie and one My Little Pony. Both were birthday gifts as my family didn't have the financial means to spend much on toys in those days.  So I didn't spend much time in the toy store. Instead I went to my neighbor's house where they had a three story Barbie house, at least a dozen Barbies, Ken dolls and a car. We had hours upon hours of fun with those dolls. Dressing, undressing, role playing... Good times.

Today, with all the selection, a kid can have a dozen dolls from each series alone! Disney Princesses, Monster High, Equestria Girls, Lalaloopsy, Bratz, Ever After High... How do you choose?

All the dolls are beautiful, but the Ever After High girls especially caught my eye. They are absolutely the most gorgeous dolls I've ever seen. They don't have the traditional small face but instead have softer, rounder faces that is just so pleasing to look at. The hair is beautiful and the outfits are just out of the world. So much detail is put into it.

To me, this isn't a doll to be played with by 4 yr olds, but rather something to be collected and displayed. In fact, I'm not sure if you can actually remove her outfit... The doll come with her own stand so maybe these dolls are for grown up kids like me who can now finally afford to get all the dolls I want :)

I got to watching the Ever After High show after my daughter found it on Netflix. I usually try to watch shows with her so that I know what's going on and the show is super cute. Beautiful drawing and the dialog isn't too annoying. The context of the story is pretty good and age appropriate too.

Raven Queen is my first doll from this series. I really like her character, she seems to be growing to become a strong, independent girl who care about her family and loved ones yet at the same time wanting to pave her own road in life. Or as the story puts it, create her own destiny.

Check out the unboxing of Raven Queen below.

Goliath Jumping Jack Game Review

The Jumping Jack game by Goliath is a great fun for all ages. Pretty much anyone who can pull out a carrot can play!

To set-up the game, you simply stick the carrots into the 'ground' then set the bunny in the middle. Then everyone takes turns spinning the spinner to see how many carrots to pull out. It can be none, one, or two. You then select the carrot to pull. But be careful! If you pull the right one, the bunny will pop into the air, and whoever catches it wins!

Lots of fun with family and friends!

3 Disney Magiclip Princesses - Rupunzel, Snow White, Anna

Rapunzel, Snow White, Anna Magiclip Dolls
If you haven't heard, for mommies with kids under 5, the Disney Magiclip Princesses are the best toy ever invented. It's probably as important as the invention of the sippy cup :)

What are the Disney Magiclip Princess Dolls? The Disney Magiclip dolls are about 4 inches tall and wears dresses that are EASY to REMOVE and PUT ON... I've you've ever seen a preschooler struggle to put on a dress on a Barbie doll or regular Disney doll you know that many times it ends in a meltdown.

With the magiclip doll, you simply squeeze the bottom of the dress like a clothespin, the top of the dress opens up and you pull out the doll. To put on another dress, open the dress and slide in the doll. Release the dress and the doll is fully dressed!!

The biggest problem you may have is getting nagged to purchase all the different princesses and sets out there. It seems like every few months there are new dolls and dresses to collect.

The following Disney Princesses are available in the Magiclip style: Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Merida, Tiana, Rapunzel, Elsa, Anna.

You can get them in singles, singles with an second dress,  sets with multiple princesses, and sets with multiple princesses and multiple dresses! Some dresses are sold in a set but they usually come with a doll.

You can also find princess and prince pairs, but the prince's outfit can't change...

Kracie Popin' Cookin' DIY Candy Kit - Gummy Zoo Animals

This is another fun kit from Kracie Popin' Cookin'. In this set, you simply pour the powders into the candy mold provide then add drops of water mixture to make colorful and tasty gummies. It takes minutes to make and my kids keep asking for more.

There is enough powder to make 2 sets of gummies using the mold.

I got mine at a local Japanese store, but it can be found on Amazon for a bit under $4.
